Believe it or not, soccer or “football” as the Europeans call it has really taken off in the states as of late and it’s all thanks to services like DIRECT TV New York. Well, maybe not entirely due to that, but there’s no denying the recent rise in awareness many American sports enthusiasts have experienced when regarding what had once been a supremely European pastime. If you’re living in the States and you aren’t familiar with this sport there’s really nothing to worry about. It’s all pretty simple.
For starters, one thing you need to remember is that whenever people are talking about “football” they are actually talking about what you know as “soccer.” The United States is really the only country in the world that calls the sport soccer and that’s most likely to avoid confusion with the other American sport known as football. All anyone needs to know going into soccer is that the sport is all about team coordination and skill. Strength doesn’t factor into it nearly as much as you might expect from sports like baseball or football (The American kind, yeah, it’s confusing). And there are absolutely no using hands in the sport. You kick the ball up and down the field and try to get it in the goal. If you’re familiar with Hockey, then you get the idea.

A well trained goalie is one who has been given proper physical and mental preparation to perform well in game situations. This requires agility drills, proper strength and conditioning training, and intrinsic motivation on the part of the keeper.
